Visit Armourcoat at HD Expo - the premier trade show and hospitality conference for North America. Established in 1992 and presented by Hospitality Design magazine, it remains at the forefront by offering the newest and most innovative products and services, encouraging and sharing ideas, providing inspiration and connecting hospitality professionals.

Armourcoat will be bringing a touch of British class to Hospitality Design this year.  The Armourcoat booth will be offering attendees a proper cup of English tea, to quench their thirst whilst exploring the stunning new wall finishes within the ArmourFX range.  In addition, a free prize draw on the stand will offer the chance to win a luxury hamper from Fortnum & Mason, an iconic British tradition since 1707.  Fortnum & Mason is famed for its world-renowned luxury picnic hampers, first distributed to Victorian high society events such as the Henley Regatta and Ascot Races.

The ‘tea connoisseur’ hamper contains; Assam tea from India's steamy Brahmaputra Valley, Darjeeling tea harvested from the foothills of the Himalayas, and Fortnum’s original Gunpower Green Tea.

The hamper also includes a set of delicate porcelain tasting cups - shaped to concentrate tea aroma, together with an exclusive silver-plated teapot shaped infuser.  Of course, no hamper is complete without another British tradition - a Harrods toy bear!

To enter simply have your badge scanned at the event, or email your name, company, address including zip and contact telephone number to daniel@usa.armourcoat.com by 5.00pm on May 16th 2014.

We were delighted to collaborate with UK furniture designer Steuart Padwick on the ‘Eye of the Storm’ table.  This highly original concept design, made from Ductal® Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC), was launched at Clerkenwell Design Week in London last week.

Multi-award winning designer Steuart Padwick is known for his warm, witty and sculptural furniture, with sleek lines and his trademark attention to leg design.  The Sunday Times recently named his 'Legs Crossed' dressing table as number 24 in the ‘100 Design Must-Haves for the Stylish Home’.

Steuart commented on the project; “This collaboration began with a chance meeting with Armourcoat at Design Shanghai in March.  I was immediately excited by the enormous potential of Ductal and it gave me the idea to create a table that showed off Ductal’s properties, and yet was a dramatic piece of furniture in its own right. It has been a pleasure working with Armourcoat and I think, together we have produced something wonderful”.

The 'Eye of the Storm' table shows how Ductal® is ideally suited to furniture design, allowing unusually thin sections with an outstanding level of surface finish detail.   Its strength and durability is even greater than natural stone.

Ductal® possesses a unique combination of superior properties including strength, ductility, durability and enhanced aesthetics. It can also be pigmented to a wide range of colours. This enables designers to realise new sculptural approaches to concrete forms.  Armourcoat hold the first sublicence to manufacture Ductal® precast elements in the UK.

MosBuild Interview with Armourcoat Marketing Director Daniel Nevitt

Q. When did Armourcoat first enter the Russian market? What made you decide to take the plunge?

A. We’ve been very fortunate to work in the Russian market for a decade now, with the same partner – Studio A Dekor - in Moscow.  We met in Riga, a fortunate introduction via our Latvian partner, and our relationship has been very successful, growing and strengthening over the years.  Our products demand a specific sales strategy which places great emphasis on professional installation.  Armourcoat wall finishes are hand applied and can be customized for specific clients, seeking high-end luxury decorative effects.  We were lucky to meet a company who shared our ideals.

Q. How do you operate in Russia – do you have an office there, or do you use a network of distributors?
A. Studio A Dekor oversee the Armourcoat operation across Russia.  They act as our master distributor in Moscow, managing and training a network of professional applicators in all key cities in the country.  In addition, they work directly with the UK office on country specific sales and marketing initiatives – including our presence at MosBuild.

Q. How did you go about finding and forming relationships with your Russian partners?

A. We rely heavily on Studio A Dekor to identify, train and support the applicator network.  This emphasis on empowering local business has been key to Armourcoat’s success in numerous international markets.  In Russia, the network also assists with regional trade events for architects and designers, and supports our growing exhibition programme. In addition we regularly visit these network associates to offer ongoing training, discuss sales strategies and introduce new products.

Q. What are the main challenges of operating in the Russian market?

A. Current trading conditions have created barriers to our operation, particularly with currency fluctuations, and we are working creatively to best overcome these issues. Generally the sheer size of the country presents challenges.

Q. How do Russian and European interior tastes differ, in your experience?

A. I would view Russian design tastes as classical with a focus on surface detail and ornate finishing.  Modern industrial inspired interior design is a recent European trend, with the use of ‘concrete’ urban styles, making its way East.

Q. Your company recently exhibited at the BakuBuild exhibition in Azerbaijan. What was it about the country that attracted you?

A. We had just appointed a new partner in Azerbaijan, TriasDecor, and used BakuBuild and the opening of their new showroom as a springboard to launch Armourcoat.  Our finishes have been specified on a range of developments in Baku, and the appointment and launch were very timely.  Baku is an oil rich city with some stunning modern architecture. Armourcoat is a high-end brand and we are confident that there is a commercial and residential market for us in that city.

Q. Could you apply your experiences of working in Russia to your new territory of Azerbaijan?

A. In the same way, we have been fortunate to find the right people in this market.  Our local team in Baku are very professional, and I’ve been highly impressed by their business approach. We are a company that focuses heavily on the personal relationship and on driving value and quality. We will act the same with our new Azerbaijan partners as we do with all our friends and associates worldwide.

Q. What are the most notable projects you have been involved in Russia and Azerbaijan?

A. Armourcoat work with a number of high profile clients in numerous sectors, particularly in hospitality and retail.  Most notably we have completed projects for Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Mulberry, Chanel, Van Cleef and Arpels.  We are also working on opportunities in the new Trump Hotel in Baku.

Q. Your company operates in over 80 countries, so you are well versed in expanding into new markets. How do you generate new leads when you move into a new territory?

A. For most new markets we work closely with government and trade organisations such as UKTI and BCFA for financial support and market information.  We normally commission an OMIS (Overseas Market Introduction Service) report through the British Consulate to seek out potential partners and key individuals within the A&D community.  In support of this, participation within trade shows is still by far the best means of analysis – offering a snapshot of the active market; revealing potential partners, competitors and customers. We generate leads through entertainment, presentations, advertising and even competitions. These activities are focused on the architect and designer who are always looking for new products and inspirations. We offer that attraction to them in a new territory and Armourcoat's outstanding pedigree never fails to impress.

Q. You have exhibited at the MosBuild building and interiors show for six years now. How has taking part in trade shows helped you do business in new markets?

A. Armourcoat products are best demonstrated at trade shows.  Whilst we place great emphasis on our web presence, with the world economy rapidly improving, exhibitions are gaining momentum again.  You can’t beat meeting personally and directly with your target audience.  People buy from people.  From an international perspective, it provides added assurance and customer confidence to meet principals from the organisation and discuss creative projects and design concepts.

New Rusteel® - decorative ‘rust’ effect

$

Armourcoat will introduce a new metal rust finish at the Retail Design Exhibition in March.  The Rusteel® finish offers an authentic rusted iron or patina effect, creating an aged, weather-beaten, metal surface.

This time-worn finish similar to weathering (or Corten) steel is created from a water-based paint with metal particles which naturally tarnish when activated.  A sealer coat is used once the desired effect is achieved and provides a further protective layer.  The finish is available exclusively through the ArmourFX modular panel system.

The ArmourFX range of panels has evolved from Armourcoat’s renowned applied seamless wall finishes.  Armourcoat's specialist designers and artisan plasterers can create integrated custom wall panel systems or design statement single artwork pieces.  The prefinished panels offer a rapid installation with ease of handling, and are ideal for projects under tight deadlines for completion.

Visit Armourcoat at stand H50, Retail Design Exhibition, 10-11 March, Olympia, London.  For more information visit www.armourfx.com.

March is a busy month for exhibitions both in the UK and internationally.  We presented new wall finishes and colours at the Retail Design Expo in London this week - including our new on-trend metal rust finish.

Located at London's iconic Olympia exhibition centre, Retail Design Expo brought together over 130 exhibitors from all branches of retail design, marketing and visual merchandising.  The show drew record-breaking crowds over the two days, proof that Retail Design Expo has firmly established itself on the business calendar.  Article here - Retail Design Expo 2015: Visitors and exhibitors already planning 2016 return

The ArmourColor Rusteel finish offers an authentic rusted iron or patina effect, creating an aged, weather-beaten, metal surface.  This time-worn finish similar to weathering (or Corten) steel is created from a water-based paint with metal particles which naturally tarnish when activated.  A sealer coat is used once the desired effect is achieved and provides a further protective layer.

Armourcoat also presented Timber-Effect panels cast from actual Douglas Fir timber planks. Two designs are available (‘original’ or ‘rugged’ shown here), made from a polymer-modified gypsum resin mix.  Timber-Effect panels have been creatively used to replace or match exotic timber such as Shou-Sugi-Ban Japanese charred planks or North American Mountain Pine Beetle blue-stain timber.
